My Contribution to Everyone Draw Mohammed Day

In celebration of Everyone Draw Mohammed Day, I’ve produced my own artistic contribution to the form. I’ve taken as my subject a particular historical even in the life of Mohammed, the Battle of Badr, in 624 AD, in which Mohammed first promised paradise to his followers in battle. The original was rendered in black ink on an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of laser printer paper. I considered digitally cleaning up mistakes, but thought that would detract from the overall “art brut” feel of the piece.

Below find a thumbnail of drawing. Click on the thumbnail to see a larger version.

Mohammed at the Battle of Badr, 624 AD

In addition to (Wahabbist-defined) blasphemy, this work also commits the sin of resurrecting a two-decades stale Saturday Night Live catchphrase.

I think this drawing goes a long way to explain why I’m a writer rather than an artist…

“Once he came suddenly and said to the Muslims with a loud voice: ‘I swear by Allah who controls Muhammad’s soul that whoever fights steadfastly today and his fighting is for Allah’s sake and is killed shall be sent by Allah to Paradise’.” Seerah-i Ibn Hisham, vol. I, page 628.

I just wanted to clairfy that your drawing is inaccurate. Not to mention the fact it was after 13 years of persecution of muslims that the command came from God that the people who left Makkah leaving their properities and stuff behind can respond to the Quraish through force and reclaim it. I have seen many other allegations in regards to Aisha, the ‘child’ bride of Muhammad, which can pretty much be clarified by the fact she came to be the top five narrator of the sayings of the Muhammad an honour 1300 other men who spent their lives with Muhammad couldnt accomplish, or the fact the primary opponents of Islam or Muhammad the Quraish never made such an allegation aganist him, because it was a social norm, a custom considered inappropriate by some just like a muslim would consider it inapprorpriate for a generation of men being raised by single mothers working 12 hour shifts because the husband didnt give a shit. Moreover, she didn’t complain that she was forced into the marriage or of the sort so ridiculous assumptions are without evidence, one of them being oppression of women in islam a seperate issue rather left alone conisdering western socieities didnt even consider women ‘human’, the right to vote, have inheritance until the 18nth century. Must i also mention the state of alabama and hempshire legal marriage age is 13 or 14 years of age. Seriously, man im not going to threaten you niether am i going to insult you. However, I’m going to go to tell you this kind of stuff is uncalled for, amendments, freedom of expression were designed not for the sake of hurting people, their creeds and figures but so that everyone make have a say, a voice in any matter. This kind of stuff will not get you any acclaim, I’m pretty sure your wit and the fact you possess some knowledge in regards to islamic history can be channeled elsewhere perhaps an academic article that may even criticize Islam, but like I said these cartoons and stuff really hurts and will create further hostility. Lastly, i would like to say screw expression, screw freedom, for the sake of helping a troubled situation and a people who today majortiy of them live in 3rd world countries with problems that most would not understand and can only criticize through misintepretation and as bystanters, just like to say help me out man. Dear Khashmeer.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. Just because some states in the U.S. allow marriage at 13 or 14 (and frankly, I’m not sure they do, the yanks are pretty tough on statutory rape whether consenual or not) doesn’t excuse a barbaric union, made at 6 and connsumated at 9. Social norms used to include all sorts of things that are abhorrent to any civilized person. Sure, Mo was probably following conventions in marrying a young child but that doesn’t make it OK. Perhaps if he’d died young like that christ guy then his life and teachings would be less problematic. Allah said it was OK for men to have four wives, but dirty old Mo could have over 20. And don’t come up with the excuse it was a form of welfare, I’m sure he could have found husbands for many of those women – bearing in mind that he could hardly have just given the women money…. oh, hang on. Aren’t women supposed to be allowed to have their own property? I won’t even start on slavery.

My point being, all religions are evil. Good people will behave well and bad people will behave badly. It’s only with religion (or other ‘faith based stuff like fascism or stalinism) that good people behave badly.

Oh, just look at the 3rd world. India and China, the SE Asian tigers are pulling themselves up by the bootstraps. Putting Africa to one side, it’s only Mohammaden countries that are really screwed these days. Even with Africa most of the worst places have been poisoned by Islam. The rest by Christianity.
