Palestinians Do What They Do Best: Firing Rockets At Israeli Civilians

Wednesday, May 12th, 2021

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but Palestinians are reigning raining down terror rockets on Israel from Gaza, and Israel is pounding the snot out of Hamas military targets in Gaza in retaliation. “Over 700 rockets fired at Israel since Monday.” “As of early Wednesday morning, three Israeli women were killed in rocket attacks, with 46 injured.”

Did you know that Gaza doesn’t have bomb shelters?

So: Same old same old. Except that last year, these attacks actually became rare. There were 90 rockets fired in February of 2020, and then only 43 for the entire rest of the year. Funny how things settled down shortly after we dirtnapped Iranian terrorist mastermind Qassem Suleimani. It may also have had something to do with the Trump Administration’s successful pursuit of the Abraham Accords (with multiple Middle Eastern nations finally making peace with Israel), and even more with their political and economic isolation of Hamas sponsor Iran. But now that Democrats are back in the White House, economic sanctions on Iran have been eased and suddenly things are getting all sploady in Ashkelon again.

Middle East Peace, Biden Style

The success of the Abraham Accords was a deep affront to the grandees of the Democratic Party’s foreign policy establishment. Democrats evidently want to be champions of Palestinian victimhood far more than they actually want peace in the Middle East. That, or the very idea of Trump foreign policy successes were simply unbearable to them. Or maybe the Abraham Accords simply weren’t profitable for them. Have we ever had any sort of accounting where all those pallets of money Obama sent to Iran for the nuclear deal ultimately ended up?

Somehow, somewhere deep within the bowels of Foggy Bottom, a Democratic Party functionary must hear the broadcast reports of sirens going off in Jerusalem and think to himself “Ah, finally all is right with the world again!”

At some point I will grapple with all the unraveling Clinton/Mueller/Fusion GPS/FISA/Brennan Scandularity…but not today.

  • Democrats, rather than maximizing their chance at a blue wave, have insisted on electing far left-wing candidates over more-electable party moderates. Those national results replicate what the Texas Democratic Party did to themselves: Push moderates out of the party. Result: More Republicans elected. They appear hellbent on replicating those results at the national level…
  • Former New York speaker of the House Sheldon Silver found guilty of a kickback scheme yet again. The first conviction was overturned on appeal over a technicality.
  • “The people who’ve lost their way are the liberals and civil libertarians, blinded by their rage for Trump, who have dropped their principles in a moment of political threat and are taking out their anger on a man who has been their staunchest ally. Maybe the question isn’t what happened to Alan Dershowitz. Maybe it’s what happened to everyone else.” Caveat: Writer suffers from usual “Fox News and Trump are the Devil” derangement. • President Donald Trump: “Members of the violent MS-13 gang are animals.” MSM: “Trump just said all undocumented immigrants are animals!” Also: “Trump supporters are fleeing the media not because they want cheerleaders, but because they are tired of a secular, coastal, liberal press that not only cannot relate to heartland voters but thinks it is beneath them to even try.”
  • Rep. Lou Barletta wins Pennsylvania Republican Senate primary, to face Bob Casey in the general. Barletta earned a lot of nationwide Republican gratitude for taking out Stupak block flip-flopper Paul Kanjorski in 2010.
  • China, Russia and other scumbag authoritarian countries are lying about their GDP. This is my shocked face. This also why you should take all those “OMG China’s economy will overtake the U.S. in 20XX!” panics with several grains of sand.

  • More scandal at the University of Texas law school:

Jason Shoumaker, the law school’s facilities director until November 2017, is the subject of an ongoing probe by the Travis County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers. Though Shoumaker was taken into custody Thursday over tampering charges, he is at the heart of a major fraud investigation – one that potentially involves “several million dollars of questionable expenses,” a source familiar with the probe said….During multiple pay periods, Shoumaker logged regular 8-hour days with the university while he was actually cavorting out of state, according to the affidavit.

Wednesday President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, finally fulfilling the terms of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995. (Trivia: It passed the Senate by a vote of 93-5. The only Democrat to vote against it? Sen. Robert Byrd.)

The usual idiots are in full poo flinging mode. “Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Mr Trump was ‘throwing the region into a ring of fire.'” Yes, because the Middle East was such a garden of peace and understanding before the announcement.

Those notorious peace lovers in Hamas stated that President Trump’s move had “opened the gates of Hell. Which is sort of their go-to move:

Maybe they can turn it into a tourist attraction: “Be there at sunset to see Hamas open the Gates of Hell!”

I guess we’ll have to live with Hamas abandoning the peaceful, reasonable, constructive engagement with Israel that’s been their hallmark.

And there’s the usual gnashing and wailing over the blow to the mythical “peace process” that’s all process and no peace.

As one official notes: “Delaying the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has done nothing to achieve peace for more than two decades.”

Naturally the Palestinians are rioting because it’s the only thing they’re good at. Maybe they’ll launch Intifada 3: Little Bombers. The Second Intifada did manage to ramp the annual deaths of Israelis into the low hundreds, but that was before Israel built most of its security wall. (They’re also far along in building an underground wall around Gaza to thwart those Hamas Peace and Happiness kidnap tunnels.) So the scope of Israeli killing they can accomplish is probably fairly constrained.

In the Netherlands, Muslims responded by smashing the windows of a kosher restaurant, trying to ensure those blintzes never oppress Palestinians again.

Meanwhile, a bill to cut off payments to the Palestinian government for supporting terrorism sailed through the House.

Being hypersensitive to the tender sensibilities of Palestinians and the “Arab street” has gotten the United States exactly jack over the years (unless you count dead ambassadors). Let the Arab street rage and boil over Jerusalem this week. Next week it will be something else. And the week after. And the week after. And the week after.
