{"id":9633,"date":"2011-12-12T17:59:06","date_gmt":"2011-12-12T23:59:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.battleswarmblog.com\/?p=9633"},"modified":"2011-12-12T18:05:48","modified_gmt":"2011-12-13T00:05:48","slug":"retired-judge-charles-holcomb-joins-the-senate-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.battleswarmblog.com\/?p=9633","title":{"rendered":"Retired Judge Charles Holcomb Joins the Senate Race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Looking over the <a href=\"http:\/\/candidates.texasgop.org\/offices\/united-states-senator\">list of Republican candidates who had filed for the Senate race<\/a>, I was surprised to see the name of former Court of Criminal Appeals judge Charles Holcomb of Wimberley, who was <a href=\"http:\/\/texaslawyer.typepad.com\/texas_lawyer_blog\/2010\/12\/charles-holcomb-to-say-goodbye-to-the-cca.html\">age-limited out of the office<\/a>. Despite searching, I was unable to find any campaign website for Judge Holcomb.<\/p>\n<p>So I called him up.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Holcomb was gracious enough to talk a few minutes about why he was running:<\/p>\n<li>He considers himself an &#8220;Eisenhower Republican.&#8221;\n<li>He talked over running with some friends and decided &#8220;why not?&#8221;\n<li>He has neither a campaign staff nor a website, and said he just filed the required paperwork with the FEC.\n<li>He&#8217;s running to &#8220;give people a choice.&#8221;\n<li>He realizes he has a steep uphill fight &#8220;against two millionaires.&#8221;\n<li>He promises to serve only a single term.\n<li>He supports the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chron.com\/opinion\/editorials\/article\/Let-s-take-another-look-at-Simpson-Bowles-2273167.php\">Simpson-Bowles deficit reduction plan<\/a>.\n<li>He believes that there is too much money in politics.\n<\/li>\n<p>BattleSwarm Blog thanks Judge Holcomb for his time. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Looking over the list of Republican candidates who had filed for the Senate race, I was surprised to see the name of former Court of Criminal Appeals judge Charles Holcomb of Wimberley, who was age-limited out of the office.
