So much election news, so little time to write about it:

(Hat tips: Real Clear Politics, Fark, NRO’s The Corner, and probably some I’ve forgotten. I’m dancing as fast as I can.)

More on the Left’s Obsession with Sarah Palin

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Today’s New York Times reveals that the Democratic Party isn’t just going to run against Bush this fall.

Mainly they’re going to run against Sarah Palin.

It’s interesting to see the irrational sputtering and fuming from the left on Palin, especially when asked what they think of her. They always start with the assumption that every right-thinking (which is to say Left-thinking) person believes that Palin is some sort of drooling moron. When asked to back up this judgment they become very defensive, or else cite widely debunked sound-bites such as her being a book-banner or a bad student (as opposed to being a member of the Honor Society), or saying God made dinosaurs 4,000 years ago.

It’s amazing that a political party who has controlled the House and Senate for four years, and the White House for two is, instead of running on their own record, attacking someone who currently holds no elective office. I’m sure that will earn some ink in any official history of the Democratic Party’s failure in this year’s elections…

Which Left-Wing Media Outlet Deserves to Die First?

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Today the Washington Post announced that it was putting money-losing news magazine Newsweek up for sale. You may remember Newsweek‘s decision a couple of years ago to remake itself as a liberal opinion magazine (something ably lampooned by the indispensable Iowahawk). Since then, Newweek has managed the amazing feat of actually losing readers faster than most legacy media.

Of course, that brings up an interesting question: Which left-wing news outlet would you most like to see go out of business first? To that end, I’ve created a poll:

The Washington Post just announced they’re putting Newsweek up for sale. Which left-wing media outlet deserves to go out of business first?
CBS News
Los Angeles Times
MSNBC
Newsweek
New York Times
National Public Radio
Salon
Time
Washington Post

Oh no! Not an ad in The New York Times! We’re DOOOOMED!

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Via Instapundit comes word that proponents of anthropogenic global warming are getting tired of all that annoying skepticism over tiny little things like “missing data,” “corrupted peer review processes” and “stuff just made up out of thin air.” And they’re not going to stand for it any more! They’re going to hit back at those skeptics hard, real hard! They’re going to (brace yourself for this) take out an ad in The New York Times!

Oh no, not The New York Times! Not that! Just imagine the impact that will have on the 3% of the NYT readership that doesn’t already believe in global warming! It’s like trying to influence the NRA by threatening to take out an ad against them in the local vegetarian newsletter.

But on reflection, a global warming ad isn’t designed to change minds the minds of skeptics any more than a papal encyclical on original sin is designed to sway the mind of Christopher Hitchins. It’s designed to reassure the global warming faithful that the high priests of AGW will fight to maintain the faith, and that unbelievers and heretics will be punished. For that, The New York Times is the perfect vehicle.

They’re not trying to convince the other side. They’re preaching to the chorus.

New York Times Tells Instapundit to STFU

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Some The New York Times employee took time out from their busy schedule of losing money and praising Obama to tell Instapundit Glenn Reynolds to “STFU.”

This is indeed amusing. However, I think it’s high time we stopped trotting out the “look at the mighty newspaper taking on the lowly blogger” cliches, even for the sake of irony. The stark fact of the matter is that Instapundit has more readers than The New York Times. If i wanted to reach readers outside the Greater New York Area (and, more honestly, Manhatten), I’d rather get a link from Instapundit than a profile in the The New York Times.
