Biden’s America: Buffalo Looters Sack Family Dollar

Looting and rioting are both signs of societal breakdown. Recent election cycles have seen the hard-left wing of the Democratic Party encourage (and the rest of party at least tolerate) such behavior, seemingly on the working assumption that doing so helped keep black voters pulling the “D” lever, no matter how destructive it might be for economic opportunity and community cohesion in the long term.

Putting aside morality, it’s easy to see the “nature red in tooth and claw” cost-benefit analysis of looting when no one is getting prosecuted. If everyone is looting and you’re pretty sure you’re not going to be popped for carrying away the big screen TV, hey, free TV!

But how far have the bonds of citizenship eroded when people feel free to loot a Family Dollar in broad daylight?

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown had sharp words for looters Monday who have broken into and stolen items from several stores around the city during the Blizzard of 2022.

Videos of ransacked stores and businesses with people running out with various items have been shared broadly on TikTok, Facebook, and other social media platforms.

The mayor called these people the “lowest of the low.”

“People who are out looting when people are losing their lives in this harsh winter storm it’s just absolutely reprehensible I don’t know how they can live with themselves,” said Mayor Brown during a joint press conference with Erie County and State Officials including Governor Kathy Hochul.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia who also spoke at the press conference said that police are aware of these incidents and working to get a full count of how many there have been.

“We have made a few arrests we have intervened in some of those, we’ve assisted with at least one location that I am aware of in getting a store boarded up so our officers are out there,” said Commissioner Gramaglia.

That store is believed to be Rick’s Sports Apparel near Allen Street and Elmwood Avenue according to a tip shared with 2 On Your Side. The store had its windows broken, got looted, and was boarded up Monday night.

The Commissioner added that officers are starting to get back to their patrol duties which would include monitoring looting and theft. Since Friday the focus has been on the snow emergency and saving lives.

“It’s heartbreaking. When this is all over the community will have nowhere to go to get the things they need,” said Robert Smallwood, an employee at Camellia Meats.

Smallwood had flagged down 2 On Your Side’s Dave McKinley Monday morning and said that the Family Dollar at Genesee Street and Zenner Street was in the middle of being looted. Several videos show people with bags of items who had just exited the store.

Of course there’s video:

Not only do looters seem in no danger of imminent starvation, they also show no fear at the police siren and show no inclination of dropping the looted goods.

Looting generally qualifies as third degree burglary under New York law, which is still a felony that can earn you seven years in jail. So what sort of person would risk that to loot a Family Dollar? You know, where almost everything is a buck? How far down the scale of civilization do you have to slide before grabbing armfuls of cheap goods and running off seems like a viable life strategy?

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown has the right attitude toward such criminality, but I note that his party, the Democratic Party, has ruled Buffalo since January 1, 1966, and Democrats have occupied the New York Governor’s mansion since January 1, 2007. And it’s not like Buffalo hasn’t suffered through previous blizzards.

Why is looting a Family Dollar now considered acceptable behavior?

Well, when a Family Dollar is all you got to loot, Family Dollar it will be.

From the linked article I see the white witch of the north (Hochul) didn’t, apparently, have anything of note to add to the mayor’s remarks. Not surprising.

“New York, New York my kind of…” errh, no. Live there once, glad I left.

It should be noted that the Dem party in Erie County/Buffalo is even further to the left than would be concluded from this article. Byron Brown lost his last Dem mayoral primary to an unknown nurse named India Walton.

India, a member of Democratic Socialists, had to go into hock and work two jobs to pay for her campaign, but won on low turnout. That’s usually how all these leftists win.

But Brown didn’t surrender. He waged a write-in campaign: “Write Down Byron Brown”, and a la Lisa Murkowski in 2010, ultimately prevailed and was re-elected in November.

Not that it made a whole lot of difference.

This kind of thing really shouldn’t be a surprise; the decriminalization of shoplifting in a lot of places has led to low-intensity but blatant looting as brazen shoplifting. The full-on looting is just an amped-up version of the same thing.

Looters should be shot on sight. Given the low-intensity looting that is rampant shoplifting, shoplifters should be shot on sight as well.

    That day is coming…

Minor quibble – Family Dollar is not like the Dollar Tree where everything is near a dollar. Family Dollar and Dollar General are more like “general stores” with a wide variety of merchandise at more-or-less reasonable prices.

  6. William Kemmler says:

And then when these Family Dollar stores close down and leave along with all the other businesses that determine it is no longer feasible or wise to operate in the Buffalo market we’ll hear howls of outrage from the usual suspects. Guaranteed.

“ Minor quibble – Family Dollar is not like the Dollar Tree where everything is near a dollar.”

Minor quibble to the minor quibble: stuff at Dollar Tree isn’t anywhere near a dollar any longer. Or so I am told by the Dollar Tree shopper in my family.

Also: don’t Family Dollar and Dollar General frequently sell tobacco products? Which are a big target for looters, from what I hear…

    “Youths.”

The problem is less about the stuff being stolen than it is about the total breakdown of civilization on exhibit. We are big trouble when a significant portion of the populace show no shame in this behavior. When no one can trust anyone else to simply not take or destroy things if not physically prevented from doing so, civilization no longer exists. We will be red in tooth and claw indeed.

I know nothing of Buffalo NY. I thought I was looking at Atlanta.

  11. Galer Dolan says:

Obviously they’re just protesting the brutal police treatment of George Floyd. And, when Floyd once pointed a gun at a pregnant woman’s belly, so that his colleagues rob her of the little she had, he must also have been protesting some racial injustice, even though the pregnant woman was black.
Anyway, I’m sure an there’s an excuse that will be found to justify this looting and vandalism.

There’s generally less snow in Atlanta…

I am unsure how this is all going to play out, long-term.

I don’t think the Democrats and the “leaders of the black community” have thought these things through, at all. They are undertaking two mutually opposing strategic policies, one that unfetters the “black community” from following the rules of civilization, and another that is bringing in a huge tranche of Central American illegal immigrants.

Not too many people recognize this, but there are very, very few blacks in Mexico or other Central American nations, aside from Belize. The reason for that? In the Caribbean and North America, the blacks were brought in mostly as slave labor. In Mexico and Central America, the Spanish brought in Africans as slave overseers in the mines and fincas, and the result was that the natives absolutely loathe blacks. I’ve run into a lot more racism towards blacks from Mexicans and other Central Americans than I ever saw from whites. Even the supposed rampant KKK types look tolerant and accepting next to some of those “brown brothers”… KKK just wants to keep blacks “in their place”, while quite a few of those “brown brothers” would prefer to kill them in job lots. Have a look at the demographic changes in Southern California, and how formerly majority-black neighborhoods are now… Something else.

These two things are going to collide, and I don’t see it ending the way the Democratic Party theorists are fantasizing. What I think is far more likely is that the incoming illegals are going to settle down, try to make something of themselves along the lines of the traditional “American Dream”, and then collide with the rise of black de-civilization. This is not going to end with the various flavors of Hispanics quietly acquiescing to the black criminal class; it’s far more likely to result in what amounts to ethnic cleansing and effective genocide.

Keep an eye on this, and see if I’m not right. I don’t want to be, but that’s the way it goes. Hispanics are effectively immune to accusations of racism, and really don’t care, either way. Folkways of theirs remember the blacks as the overseers and oppressors; that’s why you don’t see too many “African-Mexicans”, because they got wiped the f*ck out after the Spaniards left them to fend for themselves amongst their former victims.

In raw numbers, about the same number of Africans were brought to North and Central America as slaves. Note how few “black Mexicans” there are, comparatively. Also note how few black and Indio types there are at the top of the heap in Mexico…
