Yes, We Have No Bananas (Or Winter Storm T-2)

I usually visit HEB Mondays and Fridays, but given the probability of an incoming ice storm (which now has the name Winter Storm Fern) I went this afternoon, when it was already very busy and the shelves were just starting to look picked for some items.

Except bananas. They were gone.

Yes, we have no bananas

There was still milk, though one shelf looked empty. I didn’t check the bread aisle.

The frozen pizza aisle was picked but still had decent options. The snack aisle was also picked. And HEB brand canned dogfood was out of individual cans.

If you were contemplating running to the store to pick stuff up, sooner is better than later.

As for the storm itself, the National Weather Service forecast looks considerably nastier than the Apple weather bugs predict. Here’s a snapshot:

Director Blue also has an infographic up, but it’s mostly things you should already know.

You might look at my prepping list if you haven’t already.

Come Saturday, I won’t be traveling any farther than walking my dogs around the block, but if you absolutely have to drive on icy roads, take all due precautions. Be sure you’ve got road flares in case you get stuck. For longer trips, consider carrying some food and water, as well as a couple of blankets, in case your trapped in your car on an Interstate during the storm.

But, if at all possible stay home.

Looks like a picked a good week for a Caribbean cruise.

Is French toast the national food of blizzards? If so, how do you make it in your all-electric kitchen with no power?

  3. Denton Salle says:

You go to Braum’s for bananas. They always have them for sundays but everyone else will be buying milk and bread.

  4. Lawrence Person says:

Tiny problem: The Braum’s nearest me is in Hillsboro, which is more than two hours away…

The people I know who were down here in 2021, including my daughter don’t think this is going to be as bad or last nearly as long.

Of course living in the northeast as long as I did, I’m not concerned at all.

I also don’t plan to go out if it freezes over. Not because I’m afraid to drive, but there are enough people here who have never driven on icy roads that I want to avoid getting hit by some moron that thinks his 4WD truck will stop on ice.

EMS, besides the lack of experience driving; much of SE Texas hardly sees ice (or ICE, because they can do curbside at the jail), so the municipalities don’t spend a lot on de-icing equipment. It easier to just shut things down. However, as your name suggests, they do sand a few places so EMS can get around.

The Lakeway H-E-B still has bananas but the rest of the produce section is rather barren. Stay warm.

Liberty Hill here. Already prepared for this with a generator and lots of comfort easy to prepare food. I even bought bananas and noticed the same trend.
