“Wife endorses husband for office” wouldn’t normally be considered news. But when both husband and wife are politicians, and the two are in the process of a messy divorce for (to quote one of the parties) “Biblical grounds,” then yes, it’s news.
State Sen. Angela Paxton (R-McKinney) apparently wants her husband, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, to be the state’s next U.S. senator despite their pending divorce, according to a new campaign ad.
“People have asked my thoughts about this election, and it turns out I have some. Let’s talk about the elephant in the room,” she begins.
That “elephant” is that she filed for divorce from her husband in 2025. In a post on X at the time, Paxton wrote that she was seeking the separation on “biblical grounds.”
“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage,” she added.
The ad was notable for running across the country during the Houston Texans-Dallas Cowboys football game. According to ad news firm Medium Buying, it was cheaper to buy national airtime than in Texas’ individual major media markets.
That’s an interesting nugget of campaign spending information.
According to a court filing, Paxton alleged that her husband had committed adultery as grounds for the divorce. During Ken Paxton’s 2023 impeachment trial, it was alleged that he was having an affair with a subordinate, Laura Olson. In separate court filings, Paxton denied the affair and all allegations of wrongdoing related to the impeachment. Divorce proceedings are still ongoing.
While Angela Paxton is seeking to end the marriage, she still implied support for her husband’s U.S. Senate candidacy — even though she did not name him in the ad — saying: “In a general election, it’s not as much about the individual players on the team; it’s about getting the whole team across the finish line.”
“Either we hold every Republican seat, or we hand the future of Texas to the other team. I’m voting for the Republican ticket on November 3rd,” she says.
The message echoes what Angela Paxton told a gathering of the Texas Federation of Republican Women in Round Rock on September 22. In a speech she gave called “The Elephant in the Room,” she encouraged voters to support the Republican ticket “even if we’re mad at them.”
There’s holding your nose, and then there’s really holding you nose.
Paxton’s public record as Texas Attorney General has been absolutely stellar, filing lawsuit after lawsuit against both federal overreach under Obama and Biden and corporate malfeasance that violates Texas law. As I’ve said many a time before, I say about Paxton what Abraham Lincoln said about Ulysses S. Grant: “I cannot spare this man. He fights.”
Now that Angela Paxton has said to vote for the man she’s filed divorce papers against, Texas Republicans (and sane independents) should put aside any reservations they have about Paxton’s private life and get out to vote for him in November.
The Talafreako menace is too serious to let that “trans kids” loving nightmare anywhere near the senate.
