Three Cheers For The Death Star

The Texas Legislature looks like it’s finally ready to pass some long-overdue corrective oversight on local government overreach:

Local elected and community leaders are denouncing what they’re calling the “Death Star” bill — legislation they say would strip the city and county of its power to enforce local laws protecting its residents.

House Bill 2127 is being debated Tuesday on the House Floor and it’s getting backlash from local officials across the state and in the Houston-area. The bill was filed by Republican State Representative Dustin Burrows of Lubbock and leaders are concerned that the bill limits the authority that the City of Houston and Harris County would have to enforce some laws and would give more control to the state.

The bill would prevent local governments from regulating changes in state codes such as agriculture, finance, insurance, labor, natural resources and occupations.

Left wing city councils that endanger their residents through stunts like defunding police and declaring themselves sanctuary cities had this coming. And I’m pretty sure that Austin is offender A-1, followed by Queen Lena’s fiefdom in Harris County.

I probably should have published this May 4…

Thank God. 88th TX legislators, if you’re reading this don’t just pass this bill, pass it, rub Houston’s nose in it, then please cleanse Alderan once and for all of the rebel scum.

Cleanse it with a turbo-ultra antimatter laser from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

Constitutionally, the state has the power to revoke a city and/or county charter. Dissolve the city/county government. There are several cities that would benefit from starting over!

Evidently elected officials in Houston/Harris County have never heard of “Dillon’s Rule.”

Don’t just start over, but force them into much smaller areas. Break up the cities into autonomous communities and set them up to govern. That will help a lot.

Austin’s local government should be jailed and Travis County subject to direct rule by the Government of the State of Texas. They’ve spent the last 50 years being left-wing jackasses and it’s time the poor people of that county got a break.

    My suggestion:

Allow the localities to promulgate such laws but eliminate qualified immunity for the individual local officials.

    Sounds great!

Now .. how can this go wrong? Hmm. Takes power away from local gov’t, and puts it in the hands of the state … who live farther away and are as a group less accountable than your local critters. And whose political structure might be more purple next year, even blue.

    😐

Kinda sounds like a wash. But for now, I’m content with this change.

Shovel more power to the central state government, yee haw!

That’s how Texans who invaded California warped the Golden State into what it is today. Now watch as Texans in Texas repeat the experiment–just so they can make sure that it works. Hah ha.
