Number of Police Austin Adds In New Budget: Zero

Despite a massive deficit in the number of police officers needed to patrol city streets, want to guess how many police Austin’s new budget plans to add?

Would you believe zero?

Austin’s far-left City Council continues to view police as the enemy, continuing it’s defund-the-police bias even after most city’s have abandoned it as madness. Their funding priorities continue to be finding new ways to rake off graft to the hard left.

    Trying again:

Great budget, huh? 50% increase ($476M versus $309M) in 3 fiscal years, all to have the same number of FTE officers and fewer FTE civilians.

Neighborhood based policing, whatever that is, is $70M more. How do you spend that much more on neighborhood policing without having, you know, more police? Operations support, $50M more, professional standards (what’s that?) $25M more. All that is most of your increase. What is Austin getting for all the money being spent?

Perhaps the Texas legislature, or their fire-breathing attorney general (I kid, I kid) could do a forensic audit?

And the dingbats on the Austin City Council ended APD’s partnership with DPS over an incident that bodycam video proves simply didn’t occur.

Gov. Abbott needs to add an item for a special session call: unless Austin increases the number of commissioned officers to a specific level by a specific date, DPS will take over APD’s policing responsibilities (with DPS authorized to hire APD officers and requisition APD equipment and facilities), and with the costs of such operations covered by deducting them from Austin’s share of sales tax revenues collected by the State Comptroller.

At some point, we’re just going to have to acknowledge the fact that these leftist assholes who’ve taken the cities over are working to a plan, and that the plan is basically “Destroy America”.

You can’t really ascribe it to anything else. If the results weren’t so consistently identical and negative, you could say that it was just “misadventures of the well-meaning”, but when Austin has San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle to look at for the downstream results of the same policies, what the hell else could explain their slavish emulation of that which provably does not work…?

Either these people are so delusional that they can’t grasp the fact that the factual results of what they do are so bad, or they’re actively working to make those results the outcome, while lying their asses off to everyone about their true motivations. Either way, they do not belong in positions of authority.
