As a teenager middle schooler discovering science fiction, I used to love going to the library. (That was, of course, before the Internet, and before I bought a house to store my own library in.)
However, it’s doubtful Austin children will be able experience the joy of discovery in Austin’s main library, as this Savanah Hernandez report shows it overrun with drug-addicted transients.
It’s a $125 million, 200,000 square foot library that took 10 years to build, but now every one of the six floors seems overrun with the homeless. “Causing what is quite frankly a terrifying environment to patrons of this library.”
“I was in the library two minutes when some homeless person on drugs jumped on [my elevator], and they were clearly having some sort of a mental breakdown.”
A few months ago, a homeless man sucker-punched a 62-year old patron using a computer, then stomped on his head. The Austin Chief of Police [Lisa Davis] ended up arresting him, because she was already there at the library for a meeting on how to make the library safer.
A 50-year old homeless man shot a library patron in the bathroom last year with a gun he had already shot someone with on the bus. “This guy had a rap sheet a mile long….For some reason he was still on the streets of Austin.”
“This is the kind of environment every single child is subject to every time they come to the Austin public library.”
Homeless people “come in here and sit all day and many of them are clearly on drugs.”
She brings up how the Austin City Council under Mayor Adler repealed the “camping” ordinance, in effect telling drug addicted transients to come party in Austin. And come they did.
And all this is made worse by Soros-backed Travis County DA Jose Garza’s determination to keep dangerous criminals out of jail and on Austin’s streets at all costs.

As long as Austinites vote Blue, this is what they’ll get. My sympathy is pretty much non-existent at this point.
They want to “Keep Austin Weird”? Well, they’ve got it.
We lived in an unincorporated suburb that was annexed by Austin. They said one of the perks we got for higher taxes was free access to the library.
A library card at the time cost non-residents something like $15 per year. The new taxes were several hundred dollars per year.
Maybe they should change the municipal motto to “Keep Austin Weird, Expensive, and Trashy”.

I live in Austin and the problem is the “Blue no matter who” crowd near me don’t ever go to the library or rarely downtown for that matter. This stuff is background noise to them and their virtue voting

Which one? The homeless man or the patron?
This will be Exhibit D for the case in favor of the forthcoming bill in the next Texas legislative session, which will create an office of state prosecutor inside the AG’s office (similar to the office of the solicitor general) who will have a plenary mandate to prosecute cases that local DA’s refuse to (and to take away prosecutions where the DA is off his rocker (a-la Garza prosecuting the soldier who shot an antifa goon who leveled an AK at him).
If we can bypass the Soros-turds and take away the power that drives them, the job won’t be any fun for them, and they’ll go somewhere else to play.
Savanah Hernandez may have imagined that a $125 million outlay would produce an opulent and exclusive enclave for seekers of wisdom. What she got was a degenerate and inclusive playground, leavened with resolutely unfit–lunatics, outlaws, sex perverts and drug addicts.
It would surprise no one but the terminally naive that the city of Austin would direct tax dollars to the benefit of their shock troops, defined as those who eagerly display their contempt for bourgeois society through shocking displays of public indecency.
She will receive no sympathy from City Hall. This outrage can only be rectified through moral rectitude, a character quality sadly lacking among Austin’s political leadership.
Austin will clear the druggies out of its library about the same time Russia conquers Ukraine.

A beautiful young lady whose life was snuffed out by a transient piece of human scum.
In the aftermath, I saw substantial improvement by the UT Police in forcing the crazy and drug addicted away from the campus and immediately adjacent areas.
obviously the city at large is willing to put up with the nonsense, law-abiding taxpaying citizens be damned.

Austin is just California in miniature.
The library might have a copy of Oscar Wilde’s “The Soul of Man under Socialism” (1891), where he writes:

It’s an axiom, an article of faith, in socialism that crime is caused by capitalism.
