Mark Steyn Lays Waste to the Obama Adminstration’s Libyan Lies

Saturday, October 13th, 2012

Mark Steyn’s comprehensive takedown of all the Obama Administration lies and incompetence in the Benghazi terrorist assault and the murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens is so righteous it deserves a link of its own.

“The entire reason that this has become the political topic it is is because of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.”

Thus, Stephanie Cutter, President Obama’s deputy campaign manager, speaking on CNN about an armed attack on the 9/11 anniversary that left a U.S. consulate a smoking ruin and killed four diplomatic staff, including the first American ambassador to be murdered in a third of a century. To discuss this event is apparently to “politicize” it and to distract from the real issues the American people are concerned about. For example, Obama spokesperson Jen Psaki, speaking on board Air Force One on Thursday: “There’s only one candidate in this race who is going to continue to fight for Big Bird and Elmo, and he is riding on this plane.”

She’s right! The United States is the first nation in history whose democracy has evolved to the point where its leader is provided with a wide-body transatlantic jet in order to campaign on the vital issue of public funding for sock puppets.

Snip.

Obviously, Miss Cutter is right: A healthy mature democracy should spend its quadrennial election on critical issues like the Republican party’s war on puppets rather than attempting to “politicize” the debate by dragging in stuff like foreign policy, national security, the economy, and other obscure peripheral subjects.

For most of those four weeks, the president of the United States, the secretary of state, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and others have persistently attributed the Benghazi debacle to an obscure YouTube video — even though they knew that the two events had nothing to do with each other by no later than the crack of dawn Eastern time on September 12.

Snip.

Secretary Clinton linked the YouTube video to the murder of her colleagues even as the four caskets lay alongside her at Andrews Air Force Base — even though she had known for days that it had nothing to do with it. It’s weird enough that politicians now give campaign speeches to returning coffins. But to conscript your “friend”’s corpse as a straight man for some third-rate electoral opportunism is surely as shriveled and worthless as “politicization” gets.

Snip.

Liberals are always going on about the evils of “outsourcing” and “offshoring” — selfish vulture capitalists like Mitt shipping jobs to cheap labor overseas just to save a few bucks. How unpatriotic can you get! So now the United States government is outsourcing embassy security to cheap Welshmen who in turn outsource it to cheaper Libyans. Diplomatic facilities are U.S. sovereign territory — no different de jure from Fifth Avenue or Mount Rushmore. So defending them is one of the core responsibilities of the state. But that’s the funny thing about Big Government: The bigger it gets, the more of life it swallows up, the worse it gets at those very few things it’s supposed to be doing. So, on the first anniversary of 9/11 in a post-revolutionary city in which Western diplomats had been steadily targeted over the previous six months, the government of the supposedly most powerful nation on earth entrusted its security to Abdulaziz Majbari, 29, and his pal, who report to some bloke back in Carmarthen, Wales.

So What Was It Romney Said About Libya, Again?

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

So remember right after assault on our Libyan embassy in Benghazi, Mitt Romney issued a statement, then clarified those statements the next day?

Let’s roll the video, shall we?

Remember how the press jumped all over him, said it was a potentially campaign-ending gaffe?

Since then we’ve learned that:

  • The Obama Administration lied about embassy assaults being the result of riots over an anti-Islamic YouTube video.
  • In fact, they now admit that there were no protests at all.
  • The Libyan embassy had repeatedly asked for additional security and were refused In fact, their security was reduced. “We couldn’t even keep what we had.”
  • That the American embassy was being guarded by an unpaid militia made up of shopkeepers.
  • That UN Ambassador Susan Rice was still peddling the “protest” line long after the Administration knew it was a terrorist attack.
  • This video timeline might help:

Watching and listening to Romney now, who do you agree with more: Mitt Romney, or reporters sounding outraged at his criticisms of the Obama Administration?

Both the Obama Administration and their lapdog media surrogates seem far more interested in defeating Obama’s political opponent than America’s Jihadest enemies, or telling the American people the truth.

Tell Us What Your Really Think

    Thursday, September 27th, 2012

British atheist commentator and comedian Pat Condell let’s Islam have it with both barrels:

I doubt any of these sentiments will be new to anyone following attempts to contain Jihadism, but are seldom expressed with such pithy concision and free of even the slightest nods to PC sensibilities.

There was a time when Islam was given the benefit the doubt by many people in the west. Now we think it’s poison and we wish we’d never heard of it, because 20 years of baseless grievance mongering and knee-jerk offense have shown us this religion for what it really is. Now we don’t like it, we don’t trust it, and we are never going to respect it. And we don’t care how Muslims feel about that.

And to think how many liberals got their panties in a knot over Elizabeth Moon’s far milder criticisms.

Benghazi Attack Mastermind Released from Gitmo?

    Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

According to reports, former Guantanamo Bay detainee Sufyan Ben Qumu (AKA Sofiane Ibrahim Gammu) “was likely involved in the attack [on Benghazi], and even may have led the attack on the consulate.”

“Qumu—a Libyan—was released from the US prison at Guantanamo Bay in 2007 and transferred to Libyan custody under the condition that he would be kept in jail. He wasn’t.”

Another glaring example of why Obama’s pie-in-the-sky promises to close Guantanamo Bay were a bad idea. And so far Obama’s response to an act of war that involved the murder of American government officials has been muted and incoherent.

Like many liberals, Obama just can’t seem to wrap his head around the fact that, whether we want to be or not, we’re at war against radical Islam around the globe. These weren’t “spontaneous protests” by random Arabs mysteriously radicalized by a YouTube video, they were planned attacks by radical Islamic terrorists. That is one of the many reasons Obama makes a singularly poor Commander-in-Chief, and why he should be replaced with Mitt Romney.

Add LSU to the “Colleges Threatened by Bomb Threats” List

    Monday, September 17th, 2012

“Louisiana State University’s main campus is being evacuated following a bomb threat.”

Last week was UT, North Dakota State, and Hiram college.

    Islamists? Copycats? Pranksters? Who knows?

Until they actually set off a bomb, or pull this sort of thing during the Alabama game on November 3, these bomb threats are all turban and no boom.

Map of Muslim Riots Across the Globe

    Friday, September 14th, 2012

Map of Muslim unrest using Google maps. I think this is updated in real time but I’m not 100% sure.

UT Evacuated Due to Bomb Threat

    Friday, September 14th, 2012

The University of Texas has evacuated campus due to a possibly Jihad-related bomb threat.

At 8:35 a.m. the university received a call from a male with a middle eastern accent claiming to have placed bombs all over campus. He said he was with Al Qaeda and these bombs would go off in 90 minutes.

Well, it’s two hours later and no boom. There’s a 99% chance this is an empty threat, since it’s always easier to pick up a phone than to actually make a bomb, as severald dead members of the weather underground can attest.

A similar threat was made at North Dakota State at Fargo.

Updated to add: bomb threat also made at Valparaiso University. UT still still under evacuation warning.

Updated to add 2: UT classes cancelled today and all events cancelled until 5 PM. Buildings can be re-entered as of noon.

Updated to add 3: Add Hiram College in Ohio to list of schools receiving bomb threats. Pretty obscure for Jihadests. Maybe just copycats.

Dispatches from the Land of Smart Diplomacy: Islamists Storm American Embassy in Cairo

    Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

I think those parallels between the Carter and Obama Administrations are getting a bit too close for comfort. It’s gone from homage to plagiarism.

Radical Islamists storm American embassy in unstable Middle East country. I’m sure that’s not a headline anyone in the Obama Administration wanted to see less than two months before election day.

Hey, didn’t Obama make a speech in Cairo a few years back? Remember how liberal commentators hailed it as “masterful” and “inspiring”?

Remember all that talk of smart diplomacy?

    Now? Not so much.

Hey the Middle East is hard. It’s very, very easy to get things wrong. But it wasn’t any easier when Bush was President, and I don’t remember his liberal critics cutting him any slack.

I also don’t remember Islamsists storming an American embassy while he was President.

    Hosni Mubarak Declared “Clinically Dead”

    Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

It looks like last week’s post was only slightly premature, as doctor’s have declared Mubarak clinically dead after suffering a stroke.

My previous comments still largely apply, although given the Egyptian High Court’s invalidation of parliament, a Muslim Brotherhood takeover is looking a lot less likely.

    Terrorist Attempt in Plano?

    Monday, June 18th, 2012

An “Asian man” evidently tried to blow up a gas pipeline in Plano.

Details are sketchy but police and FBI just started searching a house.

Is Asian a codeword for “Muslim” here? Jihad-related? Earth Liberation Front? The Coalition to Fight Man-Bear-Pig? Random Lunatic? Who knows?

No additional information expected until tomorrow.
